What is Scabies?

Scabies is a microscopic mite that lives in the upper layer of skin where it lays it eggs. 

Signs and Symptoms:

  •  intense itching, or small bumps or a rash on the penis, between the fingers, on buttocks, breasts, wrists, thighs, or around the navel
  •  identifying the mite or mite eggs or fecal matter (scybala)
  • A red-brownish rash occurs where the itching is 
  • Be careful; scabies is not always visible 

Prevention:

  •  Avoid direct skin to skin contact with an infested person or infested items that the person may have come into contact with. Examples: clothing, bedding, ect.

 

 

Treatments:

  • The products are scabicides which kill the scabies mites and mite eggs.
  • All medicine used to treat scabies must be prescriped by your doctor. There are no over the counter treatments.
  • Scabicide lotion or cream that can be applied to all areas of the body.
  • Anything used by the person with scabies should be washed and dried immediatley in hot water, dry cleaned or sealed away for 72 hours.
